GreenLight Recruitment took the excellent initiative to support a local senior cricket side this season but unlike the team at GL, it was the men involved that failed to come through when the situation counted the most during October to March!

Led by Ranulf Overton, the Merivale-Papanui 2nd XI (known imaginatively in the press and web domains involved as the ‘GreenLights’!) finished 2nd in the Christchurch Metropolitan 2B Grade, 3 wins behind the eventual winners, Old Boys Collegians.

It should be noted that this was exactly the same number of times that they met each other. On all three occasions the games were tense with no team ever scoring more than 140 runs but on all occasions GreenLight came out on the wrong side of the ledger. As the old saying goes, if you could have and you should have then you would have.

Vice-captain Adam ‘Bones’ Brown really did the job with the ball and was the team’s highest wicket-taker, ably supported at the other end by fellow opening bowler, Dick Hastings. With the bat, grizzly old veteran, Matt Harrington, was the only guy to top 500. Trent Langer (Justin’s cousin) was a welcome addition over the final stanza of the season, scoring a glorious hundred in his second turn at bat.

Real thanks to Sonya and Anna on behalf of all of the squad. Their support was immense and the GL name will continue to be proudly represented by all who play for the lads in future.

Cheers.

Kind rgds
